 Who's the Most Shot?
« Thread Started on Mar 22, 2009, 11:26pm »

This one was inspired by our buds at Badlefthook.com...

Who do you think is the most finished of the list? Who's in the most danger if he continues his career?

Though I'm a fan of every fighter named, I would have 2 say that De La Hoya may be the most shot outta the bunch...
If not De La Hoya, then Roy Jones, like I've said before...
The only reason why I said De La Hoya was because at least Roy Jones through punches durin his fight with Calzaghe...
De La Hoya barely threw anything durin his fight with Pacquiao...

I agreed with Mack and voted for Oscar. I think that Barrera, Jones and Holyfield may all be the more physically shot, but those 3 have shown the common sense to pick on a lower calibre of fighter as their skills have eroded.

Oscar doesn't have the luxury to be fighting club fighters on Azteca TV. Everything he does has to be big and at least somewhat risky.

I had to go with DLH for the reasons mentioned by Paul. If he takes on a real fighter he is going to loose. My wife just reminded me that Cotto fought the kid from the Contender. Would DLH get away with that? I doubt it, he's shot and I believe he knows it. RJJ can probably keep fighting in Pensacola where he packs the house.

As a sad side note, Barrera is already considering a run at another world title and Jones is eyeing a move to 168 against Jermain Taylor with a possible tune-up against Jeff Lacy before that.

I voted Holyfield, he keeps going and going and going, but as far as the most to lose, I cant imagine taking heavyweight shots to the head over and over, are good for the later years ask the great one ALI, The reason Oscar cant get away with fighting 3rd rate fighter is he to his credit has made a career of fighting the best, something the younger fighters oscar should retire losing your last fight to pacman is acceptable, losing to joe bag of donuts is not.

Oldmarine,
Oscar did get away with it... he fought Stevie Forbes who also was on the Contender.

I went with De La hoya because of how shot he looked against Pacquiao. If the heavyweight division was as strong as it was a few years back Holyfield probably would have been sent into retirement but it isnt so he gets away with it so you have to go with Oscar. Out of the four fighters mentioned all of them could be one fight away from a beatdown i hope they all retire.

Holyfield was outclassed at points in his last bout...which wouldn't be such a big deal, except that it was against Nikolai Valuev! Even the state of New York barred him for having eroded skills after he lost there to Larry Donald.

If we're talking health concerns, we could put Chris Byrd in there, too, but maybe he'll defy the odds and find a niche at cruiserweight.

I couldn't argue too hard against a vote for James Toney.

Omar Sheika wasn't on the list, so I went with Barrera. He's not so high profile anymore, but against Khan, he looked awful, the cut didn't help either. The guy can't compete at lightweight, and gets demolished by any skilled fighter in that division (probably)

Speaking of shot fighters, Diosbelys Hurtado, has a fight set for April 3rd. Hurtado, if you remember, was KTFO by Pernell Whitaker way back in 1997. In his most recent big fight, he was knocked out in 2 by Vivian Harris in 2002.

Viking, you are correct. Dlh did fight 2pound but it slipped my mind. As I recall DLH won but his face sure looked like he lost. Thank you for correcting me.

What viking said was true, but the Forbes fight was supposed to be a tune-up for a Mayweather rematch...there's no way it would've been tolerated otherwise...
